What Slows Down Background Checks for NEOGOV Clients?
Background checks stall in NEOGOV when screening runs outside the workflow — data re-keyed into a separate portal, a different package for every department, status chased through a ticket queue. Agencies already lose candidates to private employers on faster timelines, and a conditional offer that sits a week is a hire lost. Add jurisdiction-specific rules and records that have to hold up under review years later, and the delay becomes a compliance problem too.
One agency, many job classes
A police recruit, a CDL driver, a substitute teacher, and a seasonal parks hire need four different programs. Rebuilding them each time costs hours no one has.
Vendors that are hard to get a hold of
Lean HR teams don't have room for a shared ticket queue, a bot, or a rep who needs the backstory every time.
Documentation that has to hold up later
Hiring decisions get revisited — in audits, grievances, and appeals. Inconsistent adverse-action handling turns a routine hire into exposure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here you can find some of the most common questions we receive.
-
Does AccuSourceHR integrate with NEOGOV?
Yes. AccuSourceHR is a listed NEOGOV Marketplace integration partner. NEOGOV users can order background checks through the SourceDirect integration and track screening status directly on the candidate list.
-
What background screening services are available to NEOGOV users?
Criminal and court records, identity verification, and watch list and database searches. Employment, education, and professional license verification, plus WageSource income verification. Drug and alcohol testing, including instant on-site and oral swab, DOT programs, physicals, and occupational health services. Driving records (MVR), pre-employment credit checks, social media screening, and international screening. I-9 and E-Verify, and continuous monitoring. Packages are configured to your requirements rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
-
How does the NEOGOV and AccuSourceHR integration work?
From your candidate list in NEOGOV, select one or more candidates and initiate the check from the Actions menu by choosing the package configured for that position. The candidate completes disclosures and authorizations online and receives status updates on the candidate list.
-
Can we screen several candidates at once?
Yes. Select multiple candidates from a position's list and initiate screening in a single action — useful for academy classes, substitute pools, and seasonal hiring.
-
Where do completed reports appear?
Screening status is visible in NEOGOV on the candidate list. Completed reports open in our secure SourceDirect platform, where results are organized by search component and can be downloaded as one consolidated document.
-
Can agencies set up different screening packages by department or job class?
Yes. We don't sell one package to every client. Screening programs are built around your hiring process and compliance requirements, then pre-configured by position, department, or location and selected at the time of order — so a public safety recruit, a CDL driver, and a seasonal hire each get the screening their role requires.
-
Does AccuSourceHR support K-12 and school district screening?
Yes. District programs typically combine criminal records, national and state sex offender registry searches, license verification, and driving records for bus and activity drivers. Because districts hire in waves, an entire substitute pool or seasonal group can be screened in one action before the school year, and continuous monitoring keeps staff status current between periodic rescreening cycles.
-
Can AccuSourceHR support public safety hiring?
Yes. Programs for law enforcement, fire, and dispatch can include expanded criminal history, employment and education verification, driving records, credit checks where permitted, and drug and occupational health services.
-
What happens when a background check comes back with a record?
A record is not an automatic disqualification. Results are reviewed against the adjudication criteria your agency defines, and the hiring decision stays with you. If you choose not to proceed, AccuSourceHR supports the pre-adverse action notice, the waiting period and the adverse action notice, with documentation retained for audit.
-
How does AccuSourceHR support ban-the-box and conditional offer requirements?
Our MySource candidate portal is configured by jurisdiction. Based on where a candidate lives and will work, they receive the correct federal, state, and/or local notices, disclosures, and authorizations automatically — no one on your team has to track which form applies where. AccuSourceHR also maintains trackers on ban-the-box, salary history, marijuana, and oral fluid testing legislation so programs stay current as rules change.
-
How quickly can NEOGOV clients receive screening results?
Turnaround varies by service, but many screenings are completed within 1 to 3 business days, and we always strive for the fastest turnaround feasible. The integration removes manual steps and provides real-time status updates throughout the process.
-
Can AccuSourceHR support agencies of every size using NEOGOV?
Yes. AccuSourceHR scales from small municipalities and single school districts to statewide agencies and large county governments — the same range of organizations that make up NEOGOV's client base.
-
What makes AccuSourceHR different from other screening providers?
PBSA accreditation, NDASA C/TPA accreditation, SOC 2 Type II security, and responsive U.S.-based support, backed by more than two decades of experience and an attorney-led compliance department. The SourceDirect platform integrates directly with NEOGOV, so screening runs within the workflow rather than alongside it.
-
What does fingerprint clearance not cover?
A state or FBI fingerprint check returns criminal history from one database. It doesn't verify past employment or education, confirm professional licenses, pull driving records, include drug or occupational health testing, or monitor an employee after hire. Agencies typically run fingerprint clearance through their state and use AccuSourceHR for everything around it.
-
Does AccuSourceHR work within public procurement requirements?
Yes. We support RFP, RFQ, and formal bid processes, and can provide the pricing structure, references, insurance documentation, and compliance attestations your procurement office may require.
-
Why do organizations switch their background screening provider?
Organizations often seek faster turnaround, more responsive support, better technology, easier integrations, and a better experience for hiring teams and candidates. AccuSourceHR is designed to deliver all of these through a single screening platform.
